The ARS and the BJA Research Forum
In Spring 2015 the ARS announced a partnership with the British Journal of Anaesthesia to jointly run high quality scientific meetings with a focus on current research from anaesthesia and its related disciplines. BJA Research Forum meetings will take place twice a year, one in London in the Spring and one in the Autumn. Meetings will have both themed and open abstract submissions, high profile plenary lecturers and a BJA writing and publication workshop.

Prof Bill Mapleson 90th Birthday
Professor Bill Mapleson will be 90 on Aug 2nd 2016.
He studied physics at Durham University where he gained his PhD on point discharge in atmospheric electricity, following which he became a lecturer in the Dept of Anaesthetics in Cardiff. Mapleson’s classification of anaesthetic breathing systems is known worldwide.
He contributed massively to safe anaesthesia and inspired many academic anaesthetists. The Bill Mapleson centre was opened in Cardiff in 2014 to promote medical training, clinical innovation and collaboration in the design of medical equipment. He was a founder member of the ARS.
